5. MOVING IN

 

CONNECTION OF UTILITIES

 

Whenever possible try to discuss with your seller to take over the supply of the utilities/services rather than disconnection and reconnection which is often unnecessary and costly.

 

TELEPHONE NUMBERS(S)

 

If applicable, find out early on from the seller whether the old phone number is being kept (or not) so you can arrange change of address cards sooner rather than later.

 

SECURITY AND SAFETY

 

New home: New Dangers, think fire, locks, alarms, stairs, kitchens.

THINK ABOUT TEMPORARY FLOOR COVERING

 

Carpets in an entrance hall may particularly suffer during a move.

Ensure you remove the bolts in the washing machine before use.

 

REMOVAL MEN (AND FRIENDS) May want a tip!!!

 

REMEMBER TO COLLECT PETS, children and older relatives living with you, from kennels, cattery, and friends and get them adjusted to their new home

 

FINALLY

 

Remember ‘Rome wasn't built in a day' and neither will you new home look in order straight away - be patient and give yourselves plenty of time!
